LISTEN PROPOSAL FOR FORT GREEN BROOKLYN
This public sculpture concept is part of a body of work entitled LISTEN. It was originally proposed in 2009 to the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership for an outdoor temporary exhibit in Fort Green, Brooklyn. A lack of funding abbreviated the venture and these works were not chosen. Stacy Stewart Smith believes that there is merit in these ideas and presents them here as a sample of his capabilities. He is interested in additional public works opportunities.
LISTEN evolved from a positive reaction to Smith's recent paintings of colorful human ears. In the Smith ideology ears represent the only human sensory (hearing) whereby truth is an immediate reaction. When we hear something, the information is directly processed in the brain and resonance is blatant and visible. Listening to truth, heritage and story telling are the concepts of this exhibit. Each sculpture/painting was intended to be constructed of double-sided oil or acrylic paint on primed aluminum shaped panels, sealed in doubled (1” wide) clear acrylic shaped sheets. The clear acrylic is bullet resistant, optically clear, meets UL752 rating, lightweight, abrasion resistant and has increased chemical resistance.

OBAMA 2012 PROJECT
Below is another public work, in progress, in the form of a portrait of President Barack Obama. Through the use of the Internet and social networking, Stacy Stewart Smith reveals the stages of development in this masterwork on Facebook. The completed work will be part of an installation that will include video and sculpture. Work on a literary project for Conde nast/Fairchild Books abrreviated the progress on this work during 2010; however, work will resume in 2012.
